About this webinar
Globally coal use is holding steady, as increases in China, India, Indonesia and other countries in Southeast Asia, counteract decline in North America and Europe. In much of Asia demand for electricity continues to grow and coal dominates electricity generation as a readily available and relatively cheap fuel. The use of high efficiency, low emissions (HELE) technologies for coal power can assist with achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as access to affordable, reliable, and modern energy services. Carbon capture technologies are a vital component of limiting climate change and are more effective when applied to HELE plant. These power plants can also add low carbon resilience to grids which are becoming more dominated by variable renewable energy. This webinar reviews the latest initiatives of the IEA Clean Coal Centre and highlights the importance of international collaboration for policy deliberations, knowledge sharing and improved pollutant control technologies for lowering carbon emissions.
