Emission control for coal in India and Indonesia: a reality check

About this webinar

As the ICSC’s four-year project on behalf of the US Department of State comes to a close, it is time to reflect on how the outcomes compare to the initial goals. The aim of the project was to accelerate emission reduction from the coal sectors in India and Indonesia. This is not an easy challenge. For India and Indonesia, solutions cannot simply be cut and pasted from what has been achieved in Europe and North America: the coals are not the same; the water availability is not the same; the technological infrastructure is not the same; and, perhaps most importantly, the bureaucratic and financial systems required to implement change are not the same.

This webinar will summarise the results of the project, introducing legacy initiatives. Perhaps more importantly, it will discuss how it is necessary to spend a lot of time in these regions to understand the reality of the challenge.
