A review of cost estimates for CCS in the power sector

About this webinar

Carbon capture and storage frequently features heavily in lowest-cost decarbonisation pathways for society, and has received growing attention as ‘net zero’ carbon emissions become a widespread policy goal. At the same time, the technology has been hindered by the perception of high costs at the plant level, particularly in the power sector, where wind and solar power offer much more competitive costs on a levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) basis. Based on a forthcoming ICSC report, this webinar presents some recent cost estimates for CCS-based power generation, while also examining the limitations of LCOE and introducing some of the leading alternatives. In particular, it will address the use of total system cost analysis as a rigorous means of quantifying the value of different technologies in a decarbonised grid.
