Japanese renewable energy firm Terras Energy Corp together with Marubeni Corp and Chubu Electric Power Co Inc announced the commercial operation of a 50-MW biomass power plant in Aichi prefecture.
The Aichi Gamagori Biomass Power Plant is based in Gamagori city. It uses wood pellets and palm kernel shells (PKS) as fuel.
Developed through special purpose company Aichi Gamagori Biomass Power Generation LLC, the biomass park should be capable of generating some 340 million kWh of clean energy per year, enough to meet the demand of 110,000 local homes.
Chubu and Marubeni each control 48.5% of the joint venture (JV) behind the project, with Terras Energy holding the remaining 3%.
The construction of the plant commenced in March 2021.
