Heating supply station from nearby Moldovan capital to produce thermal energy through use of biomass

The heating supply station from the Bacioii Noi settlement, Chisinau municipality, will produce thermal energy through use of Miscanthus plant as alternative fuel.

According to the Termoelectrica stock company, the station is to be modernized by the enterprise based on a partnership with the Moldovan State University (USM) and the Institute of Genetics, Physiology and Plants’ Protection, which will ensure the planting of an area of 100 hectares of Miscanthus for producing pellets.

The subject was discussed at a working meeting at the USM’s headquarters. Attending the event was USM rector Igor Sarov, the acting director general of Termoelectrica, Vasile Leu, the director of the organization’s policy, Vitalie Mita, representatives of the Infrastructure and Regional Development Ministry and the Institute of Genetics, Physiology and Plants’ Protection.

During the discussions, the sides set forth their opinions on the importance to strengthen the competences, experience and responsibilities in extending the cooperation between the science and public/private environment, as well as on the need to implement the state’s policy in the use of renewable energy sources and diversifying the technologies of producing energy for ensuring the country’s energy security, especially on the present period of energy transition.

The heating supply station from the Bacioii Noi settlement will be the second station working on biomass managed by Termoelectrica. A similar project was carried out in 2020, in cooperation with the Institute of Genetics, Physiology and Plants’ Protection.
