The International Centre for Sustainable Carbon

Our mission

The ICSC supports the use of sustainable carbon as a key part of the global energy mix

The International Centre for Sustainable Carbon (ICSC) provides independent information and analysis on how biomass, coal and waste can become cleaner sources of energy, compatible with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

The ICSC is supported by governments and industries while engaging with organisations worldwide, ensuring global insight, significant impact and strong collaboration.

The ICSC offers policy relevant expertise on critically important energy and environment issues, combined with dissemination and outreach.

The ICSC has a global perspective and highlights the challenges of access to affordable, secure and sustainable energy for individual countries, recognising that there is no one size fits all solution to balancing this trilemma.

Our role

Our organisation is non-profit making and is funded primarily by member subscription.

What we do:

  • Encourage the use of our resources.

We are based in London with a team of engineers, scientists and other experts. All information and advice is impartial and free from political or commercial influence. Please see our terms of use for further details.

Our relationship to the IEA

The IEA (International Energy Agency) examines the full spectrum of energy issues including oil, gas and coal supply and demand, renewable energy technologies, electricity markets, energy efficiency, access to energy and much more. Through its work, the IEA advocates policies that will enhance the reliability, affordability and sustainability of energy in its 30 member countries and beyond.

Technology Collaboration Programme

Disclaimer: The International Centre for Sustainable Carbon is part of a network of autonomous collaborative partnerships focused on a wide range of energy technologies known as Technology Collaboration Programmes (TCPs). The TCPs are organised under the auspices of the International Energy Agency (IEA), but the TCPs are functionally and legally autonomous. Views, findings and publications of the International Centre for Sustainable Carbon do not necessarily represent the views or policies of the IEA Secretariat or its individual member countries.
